What are Fears and Phobias?

Fears and phobias are an extreme reaction to a situation. The templates for them are laid down after difficult or traumatic events. During highly anxious times, the subconscious mind can cause a panic reaction. The mind then latches onto a place, time or physical object and a fear response is created.

If one finds themselves in a similar situation, the association in the brain is made. The brain will pattern match, and the panic response sets in.

This behavioural pattern is very debilitating. And can cause an individual to avoid situations creating a restrictive way of life.

What can we have fears and phobias about?

You can experience fears and phobias about almost anything. Flying, snakes, spiders, crowded spaces, giving presentations, people being sick, stacked objects, roots on plants, cans of beans. You name it, someone out there somewhere will have a fear or phobia about it. So don’t feel alone if you have an unusual phobia. It probably isn’t as unusual as you think. I have heard so many different examples that nothing shocks me.

How can it be helped?

Dealing with fears and phobias with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, often takes anywhere between 4-9 sessions.  This will of course depend on what I conclude from the Initial consultation. Treatments plans for specific phobias are generally 4-6 sessions.
Specific techniques will be used during treatment. These help take the emotion out of the fear/phobic response. And after the fear is removed we then work to replaced with a positive response, how you would like to react in these situations.

I went to see Viv for help with my fear of flying. In half term I went on a plane and I can not tell you the difference my sessions with Viv have made. Not just on the flight itself (which was amazing!) but the build up and the day itself. I was able to enjoy the build up to my holiday, enjoy the journey and enjoy the airport experience with my children. I could keep a level head while packing and leaving the house. On the plane I was able to be amazed by what was below me, what I could see and be able to share all this with my boys. It’s been just over a year since my course of hypnotherapy with Viv and I can’t quite emphasise how different my life is! I was a vet student with a phobia of blood so she genuinely saved my career.
