Confidence

When we are confident, things seem easy. Doing activities that we love become part of us, and our daily routine. But when anxieties creep in, things that we enjoy start to take on a different feel.

We can start to shy away from these things and make excuses for not doing them. Effectively running away because
our brains have gone into a state of fight or flight.

Fear has to have a focus and often when our minds are hyper vigilant we start to focus in on the dangers rather than the enjoyment. And as soon as this happens; we tense up and are more likely to make mistakes or have accidents.

Has this ever happened to you? I know it has to me, when rock climbing, getting back on my bike after falling off and getting back on a horse after being thrown off, and swimming against a tide. (I was young!)

The adrenalin pumps around the system and if really stressed the brain will store that memory, and pattern
match to it. So the next time we are in that situation it thinks “I know what we do here…. We panic”.
Obviously this isn’t great in situations when you need to have your wits about you such as halfway up a cliff face, cycling on a road, in control of a horse or swimming in open water.

I have worked with many people that have had these kind of experiences. And fallen out of love with their sport or hobby because fear has taken control. I’ve worked with clients that have had accidents and totally lost their nerve.

So, if this sounds familiar, and you are looking to get in control and enjoy that activity again. Pick up the phone or email me via the contacts link at the bottom of this page and let’s get you back doing what you love.

I booked to see Viv after losing all my confidence riding my horse following a bad fall last year. I was plagued with negative thinking and constantly waiting for bad things to happen, I felt like I would never be able to enjoy riding again, definitely never jump or hack by myself confidently again. After having a few sessions I felt a noticeable change in my mindset and I had a new outlook in not only riding my horse but in my life in general. I’m now able to hack out confidently not only with others but by myself and have managed to start jumping again and actually enjoying having my horse. Viv has a fantastic way of explaining things and puts you at ease straight away and makes the sessions interactive and positive. I would 100% recommended Viv and I feel the sessions I had have been invaluable to my on going health and happiness!
