FAQ's

Read through my Hypnotherapy FAQs and if there is anything you would like to discuss in more detail, please get in touch.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle and relaxing therapeutic approach that uses focused attention and guided relaxation to help create positive change. It can help you understand patterns, build confidence, reduce anxiety, and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding.

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No — you remain aware and in control throughout the session. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation, similar to daydreaming or becoming absorbed in a book or film. You cannot be made to do anything against your wishes.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Everyone experiences hypnosis slightly differently, but most people describe it as deeply relaxing and calming. Some people feel light and floaty, while others simply feel peaceful and focused.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy may help with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and low moods
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Career Burnout
  • Fears and phobias
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Overthinking and worry
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Habits and behaviours
  • Children’s anxiety and emotional regulation

If you are unsure whether hypnotherapy is right for you, please get in touch to discuss your needs.

What will happen in a session?

Firstly, you will attend an Initial Consultation, where details of the therapy will be discussed, your needs and goals assessed, and a thorough explanation of the brain given.

Once the Initial Consultation is complete, the follow-up sessions are split into two parts. The first part is preparation for the hypnosis. We will be working towards using your mind differently, strengthening new positive neural pathways. And the second half of the session is relaxation hypnosis, tailored to you.

Do I need to prepare for my session?

No special preparation is needed. It can simply help to arrive with an open mind and comfortable clothing so you can fully relax.

Is it like stage hypnosis can you make me do things I don’t want to do?

No, it's nothing like it. It is a very relaxing process where you will be comfortable and completely in control throughout.

Is it safe?

Yes, hypnotherapy is very safe. You will be in a safe clinical environment and completely in control throughout.

Do you work with children?

Yes. I work with children and young people using creative, gentle approaches that may include storytelling, relaxation, breathing techniques, and hypnotherapy-based tools designed specifically for their age and needs.

Parents are encouraged to stay in the sessions for the first couple of times or until the child feels comfortable. In my experience, children often do much better and work more quickly when they come on their own. It's not because they don't love you! It's normal as they relax a bit more and can say what they want when you are not there!

Can hypnotherapy be done online?

Yes. Online hypnotherapy sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many people, provided you have a quiet and comfortable space where you will not be disturbed.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?

Hypnotherapy is suitable for many people, but it is not a replacement for medical advice or emergency mental health support. If appropriate, I may recommend working alongside your GP or another healthcare professional.

What if I can’t “go under” hypnosis?

Many people worry about this, but hypnosis is not about being unconscious or “under.” Most people can enter a relaxed hypnotic state when they are willing to engage in the process.

How do I book a session?
