Breathing is something we all do instinctively, yet it holds the power to transform our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. For many years, I have incorporated breathwork into my hypnotherapy practice, guiding clients to use their breath as a tool for relaxation, focus, and healing. However, I recently felt the call to deepen my understanding and skills. After completing a day of CPD (Continual Professional Development) last year, I immediately introduced clients to the power of connecting to their breath, and the results were amazing. So, embarking on becoming a fully qualified Breath Coach seemed a logical move and a milestone I aim to achieve by May 2025.

The decision to take this step came from witnessing the profound impact that breathwork had on my clients. Simple shifts in breathing can unlock a sense of calm in the most stressful situations or energise us when we feel depleted. The breath serves as a bridge between the body and the mind, a tool that’s always available yet often underutilised. I have seen clients learn to regulate their nervous systems, reduce anxiety, and find clarity in their thoughts, all by tuning into their breath. This inspired me to go further, to dive deeper into the science and art of breathwork so I can offer even more tailored and effective support. It’s so exciting and also intriguing where it will take me. What I will learn about myself, what my own patterns are, and how I can improve them.

Is it just Relaxation?

Breathwork is far more than just a relaxation technique. It is a practice rooted in centuries of wisdom, from ancient yogic traditions to modern therapeutic approaches. It works on multiple levels, engaging the physiology, soothing the nervous system, and encouraging a mindful connection to the present moment. For example, intentional breathing patterns can help to lower cortisol levels, easing the body’s stress response. They can also improve oxygenation, supporting better energy levels and mental clarity. Over time, regular breathwork can even help to rewire the brain, creating new patterns of resilience and emotional balance.

One of the aspects of breathwork that fascinates me most is its accessibility. Unlike other wellness tools, which might require special equipment or environments, the breath is with us wherever we go. It can be used in a meeting room before a presentation, on a crowded train during rush hour, or in the stillness of the evening before sleep. Teaching clients to access this innate resource has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Yet, I know there is still so much more to explore and learn.

What it means for my Practice

Becoming a qualified Breath Coach will not only deepen my expertise but also allow me to integrate breathwork into my hypnotherapy practice in new and exciting ways. I look forward to creating bespoke breath-based strategies for my clients, supporting them through challenges like chronic stress, burnout, and anxiety. Beyond the therapeutic benefits, I’m also excited to share how breathwork can be a gateway to personal growth, helping people connect more deeply with themselves and their inner strength.

This journey feels like a natural evolution of my work, aligning with my commitment to provide compassionate, evidence-based support to those I work with. As I progress through my training, I’ll be sharing insights and practices that you can incorporate into your own daily life. My hope is that by May 2025, I’ll be able to offer even more value to my clients and community, empowering you to harness the transformative power of your breath.
