Breathwork is a powerful tool that can bring about incredible changes in how we manage stress, anxiety, and overall well-being. Recently, I completed a CPD course on Breathwork for Hypnotherapy clients, and I’m excited to share how this technique has deepened my practice. Breathwork has become a game-changer for helping people connect with their bodies, calm their minds, and find a sense of balance in life. In fact, it inspired me to book a full training course next year to become a qualified Breath Coach.
Breathing is something we do automatically, often without thought. Yet, the way we breathe has a profound impact on our physical, mental, and emotional states. Breathwork harnesses the power of conscious, intentional breathing to regulate the nervous system, release tension, and cultivate a state of relaxation. For many of my clients, especially those experiencing anxiety or overwhelm, learning to use breath as a tool has been transformative.
How Breathwork Helps with Anxiety
Anxiety often shows up physically, with symptoms like rapid heartbeats, shallow breathing, or tightness in the chest. What’s interesting is that anxiety and shallow breathing often go hand-in-hand, creating a feedback loop that keeps the body in a heightened state of stress. By learning controlled breathing techniques, my clients can interrupt that cycle and find calm more easily. One technique I often recommend is diaphragmatic breathing, which encourages slow, deep breaths from the belly. This helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the body’s natural calming mechanism.
In my hypnotherapy sessions, I’ve found that incorporating breathwork allows clients to relax more deeply, helping them enter a calm, focused state more quickly. As they become more mindful of their breath, they not only release anxiety but also gain a tool they can use anytime in their daily lives—whether they’re in a stressful meeting, stuck in traffic, or preparing for a big presentation. Breathwork becomes an anchor that brings them back to the present moment, reducing the spiraling thoughts that often accompany anxiety.
Building Confidence Through Breath
Breathwork isn’t just about managing anxiety; it’s also a powerful tool for building confidence and resilience. When we learn to control our breath, we gain a sense of mastery over our internal state. In moments of doubt or self-criticism, conscious breathing can help ground us, bringing clarity and a sense of inner strength. For professionals, entrepreneurs, or anyone who faces pressure in their daily lives, breathwork is an invaluable asset.
In my recent CPD course, I explored how breathwork techniques can enhance hypnotherapy, especially for those who feel the pressure of imposter syndrome. By pairing breath with positive visualisations, we can create a sense of calm and focus that helps clients tap into their confidence. The next step in my journey is to further my training, and I’m thrilled to be booking a course next year to become a fully qualified Breath Coach. This will allow me to integrate even more tailored techniques into my hypnotherapy practice, offering clients deeper, more transformative experiences.
