It’s 2022, and wow what a couple of years we have had. I hope that we can now all start to look forward and learn to adjust to whatever we need too.
Learning to adjust can be a big step for many and some find it very difficult indeed. Our minds are programmed to look for dangers and to repeat behaviours that are keeping us safe. But this can unfortunately mean that we don’t end up doing things we’d like to, or we avoid situations, feeling safer to shy away, yet later feeling miserable because we did this.
Starting to make proper assessments can be one of the first most important things you can do for yourself. Gaining clarity, learning to adjust and seeing the wood for the trees. This is when we can start calming that inner voice; and move ourselves into a position that feels more comfortable.
It’s funny how the voice that tries to keep us safe; by making us obsessive or hyper vigilant – can later also make you feel uncomfortable from following its advice. It can almost beat you up mentally for doing it, in the form of negative introspection.
So what questions can you ask yourself when that little voice pipes up? What question would make you adjust your mental position? It’s really worth spending a few minutes on this and coming up with a quick question that you can ask yourself. What would yours be? What would make you think “STOP”, “let’s make a proper assessment here?”
