Why Laughter Really is the Best Medicine
Laughter is often touted as being the best medicine, a good hearty chuckle can fix all ailments, but what is the science behind this saying, is there any?
What are the benefits?
Release of Endorphins – Laughter is a great way to get a release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemical. Release of endorphins can help relieve stress and even some pains.
Laughter and Heart Health – Laughter can promote the health of your heart; it helps increase blood flow and can help decrease the risk of heart attacks.
Relieve Anger – Holding onto anger can have serious health effects, lightening anger’s grip on yourself will help you feel less tension and relax your mind and body.
Burns Calories – Have you ever heard the expression “I laughed so hard I have abs now”? Whilst not quite to that extent, there is some truth to the saying. 15-20 minutes of laughter a day is said to burn 40 calories. It won’t replace the treadmill, but it all adds up!
May Help You Live Longer – A study from Norway found that those who have a greater sense of humour typically live longer than those who struggle to find the laughter in life.
